The CRSP/Compustat Merged database (CCM) provides CRSP and Compustat subscribers with a convenient way to link CRSP market and corporate action data with Compustat fundamental data by allowing CRSP users to search by Permno, Permco, and or GVKEY identifiers.

Special Note: WRDS accounts will only be generated for current faculty, currently enrolled students (Ph.D., masters, and undergraduate), and selected current staff of UNC-Chapel Hill.

LSEG Workspace

Provides information on publicly traded US and international companies; formerly known as Refinitiv Workspace. Typically includes summary financial data with links to company filings, key ratios actual and forward estimates, stock pricing data, key corporate events, officers and directors, analyst rating, and analyst reports.

Aftermarket Reports (fka Investext) no longer exists as an independent database but is a module of the LSEG Workspace database. Contains the full-text, including tables, charts and other graphics, of industry and company reports written by analysts from more than 700 of the world’s investment banks. Includes over 8 million company reports and more than 1.2 million industry reports dating back to 1982. Reports are generally added 1 to 2 weeks after initial publication.

Capital IQ (Kenan-Flagler only)

Capital IQ allows users to search for and screen for information on companies including in-depth financial information on publicly traded companies, information on investment firms, biographical information on corporate professionals, and transactions in both the public and private capital markets by a very wide range of company identification data, financial statement data, executive’s biographical characteristics, and deal or transaction specifics. 

Information can be exported to Excel.

 

The Capital IQ platform, in various forms, is deployed at over 1,800 investment banks, hedge/mutual funds, PE/VC firms, management consultancies, and Fortune 500 corporations. (Source Vendor Web site)

COMPUSTAT Global

Annual and quarterly of data for hundreds of data items, ratios and concepts. Authoritative financial and market data covering publicly traded companies in more than 80 countries, representing over 90% of the world’s market capitalization, including coverage of over 96% of European market capitalization and 88% of Asian market capitalization. Data sets have been designed to reflect the varieties of actual reporting practices used across the globe, while allowing for minimal normalization and establishing consistency on an item by item basis for Non-North American companies. Data sourcing through alliances with two leading, local information providers in Asia-Pacific enhances Compustat coverage in this region demonstrating accurate accounting interpretation and expediency.

COMPUSTAT North America

Data includes more than 20 years of annual and 84 quarters of financial data on more than 10,000 companies that are currently in business. The database also includes 20 years of annual financial data for 8,500 companies that are bankrupt, went private, no longer report, or were liquidated. There are also 900 Canadian companies listed in the database. COMPUSTAT is intended solely for research and instructional purposes.

COMPUSTAT Snapshot

S&P Capital IQ’s Compustat Snapshot, researchers get a clear picture of preliminary and final data for annual, quarterly and year-to-date periods, minimizing lag assumptions and look-ahead bias. The database creates a historical investment environment by showing the information that was available at specific time points in history, with data values known by the market from preliminary announcements and final sources. Dates of coverage are 1968 to the present.

Eikon (formerly Datastream International)

Eikon is a new name and interface for the former Datastream product. Eikon provides daily pricing, volume, and performance information on over 37,000 equities from 57 countries, 12,000 market stock and bond indices, 87,000 macroeconomic series from the International Financial Statistics of the World Bank, OECD and other central statistical offices, over 2,000 daily foreign exchange rates, 1,000 daily and weekly interest rate series, 68,000 fixed income instruments from 23 countries and more than 260 financial and commodity futures and options contracts. Series are acquired from national governments and banks, the Federal Reserve, the International Monetary Fund, OECD, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and other international agencies. Additional features include commodity prices, debt and equity information, exchange rates, interest rates, stock market indices, futures, options, and much more. Time coverage varies, but many series are available in daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual intervals for up to 10 years some are available for longer periods.

Factiva

Factiva provides tools for searching and monitoring general news and company, industry, and other business information. The sources include newspapers, academic journals, trade journals, popular press magazines, transcripts of radio and television broadcasts and newswires. Factiva includes full-text of The Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and more than 10,000 other sources from more than 150 countries in more than 22 languages. Most publications are updated on the day of publication. But more than 400 of the 600+ newswires are updated continuously.

Mergent Historical Annual Reports

​Mergent Historical Annual Reports contains company annual reports from the U.S., Canada, and other mostly European countries from around the world. Over 1 million annual reports are included, some dating back over 100 years. In some cases when a company did not produce an “Annual Report” the company’s 10K is included instead. And in other cases both the “Annual Report” and the 10K are included. The documents are in pdf format.

Mergent Archives

Provides a comprehensive history of corporate America for almost 100 years. It includes corporate histories, brief financial statements, lists of subsidiaries, descriptions of long-term debt, and stock offerings, officers and directors, etc.

Specifically the database contains:
Transportation Manual 1909-present | Public Utility Manual 1914-2007 | Industrial Manual 1920-present | Bank and Finance Manual 1928-present | OTC Industrial Manual 1970-present | International Manual 1981-present | OTC Unlisted Manual 1986-present | and Municipal and Government Manual 1955-present.

ORBIS has information on more than 321 million publicly traded and privately held companies from almost 200 countries around the world. The company count breakdown by region:

North America 68 million — Western Europe 79 million — Eastern Europe 42 million — Middle East 6 million — Far East & Central Asia 101 million — Oceania 30 million — South & Central America 53 million — Africa 13 million.

For the privately held companies information includes typical directory facts such as corporate name, the name of the “ultimate parent” company name,  location and address information, number of employees, several industry classification codes, type of ownership information, listings of subsidiaries, names and titles for executives and directors, and more.

For the publicly quoted companies, banks and insurance companies Information includes: all the information available for private companies PLUS: up to 10 years of detailed financial statement information

Orbis contains graphing capabilities and integrated analysis software that allows users to compare companies against each other and produce tables and graphs to illustrate results. The tables and charts can be downloaded into various word processing and spreadsheet formats.

Osiris

Osiris contains information on more than 110,000 listed (publicly traded) companies, banks and insurance companies from 190 countries around the world. In addition to the income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement and ratios. Osiris provides, ownership, subsidiaries, earnings estimates and stock data. In addition to the existing ratios you can create your own that you can display in the reports and also use in your searches and analyses. Osiris contains specific report formats for companies, banks and insurance companies and also has reports that reflect accounting procedures in the major world regions. Both standardized and “as reported” financials are provided. Osiris contains graphing capabilities and integrated analysis software that allows users to compare companies against each other and produce tables and graphs to illustrate results. The tables and charts can be downloaded into various word processing and spreadsheet formats.

SEDAR is a rough equivalent to the SEC’s EDGAR files but it is for Canadian companies.

Value Line Historical Estimates & Projections

Value Line’s Historical Estimates & Projections product provides a variety of Value Line analysts’ estimates and 3-to-5-year projections for approximately 1,700 companies and industries–the same broad group covered by Value Line Investment Survey. Coverage is 1987 to 2011.

Among the variables included are: Value Line proprietary rankings (timeliness, safety, financial strength), Price performance indicators (beta, stability, growth persistence, earnings predictability), Year-ahead estimates (EPS, dividends), 3-to-5-year performance projections (appreciation, total return), Projected growth rates of key financial indicators, Annual estimates of selected financial indicators, Quarterly estimates of sales- EPS, and Aggregate information for around 90 industries.
