Library Assistant @ Kenan-Flagler Business School

Kenan-Flagler Business School is hiring one SILS graduate student to work 10-15 hours per week through Spring 2026.

The position involves patron interaction and helping manage electronic resources and is a good introduction to work in a business library.

Position Information

  • Work 10-15 hours per week at $20.00 per hour through Spring 2026.
  • Schedule negotiable; at least half of work should be done during business hours (M-F, between the hours of 8-5)
    • Some work will be remote
    • Some work will take place in McColl Building, on the UNC Chapel Hill campus.

Job Duties

Research & Reference

  • Provide basic reference (by email and via Zoom)
  • Assist with synchronous instruction (in person and via Zoom)
  • Investigate publication patterns of business scholars
  • Survey students and faculty regarding use of business resources
  • Create guides, videos, and graphics to provide asynchronous library support

Technical & Administrative Tasks

  • Update online content
  • Write simple and clear database descriptions
  • Assist with electronic resource management, including data entry for license renewals and analyzing database usage reports.
  • Provide users with access to business library resources such as WRDS
  • Support efforts to track Kenan-Flagler research impact in popular media

Required Qualifications

  • 1st year graduate student at SILS
  • Ability to work accurately, paying close attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, without constant supervision
  • Knowledge of basic website editing
  • Interest in learning about new library resources, especially in business
  • Desire to be helpful and ability to multitask
  • Curious. Dependable. Responsible
  • Completed or enrolled in INLS 501

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed or enrolled in INLS 709 Business Information
  • Experience editing WordPress or LibGuides
  • Experience teaching or training others
  • Library work experience not necessary.

About the Library & the School

Kenan-Flagler Business School offers multiple academic programs, from undergraduate business majors, to a Master of Accounting, a PhD program, and multiple MBA programs.

Staff in the library support all of these students and their faculty through a Research Tools website, licensing multiple databases and data sets, and through interactions with individual and courses.

Reference and research support is mostly virtual and asynchronous, although some work is synchronous and in-person.
