Capital IQ (Kenan-Flagler only)

Capital IQ allows users to search for and screen for information on companies including in-depth financial information on publicly traded companies, information on investment firms, biographical information on corporate professionals, and transactions in both the public and private capital markets by a very wide range of company identification data, financial statement data, executive’s biographical characteristics, and deal or transaction specifics. 

Information can be exported to Excel.

 

The Capital IQ platform, in various forms, is deployed at over 1,800 investment banks, hedge/mutual funds, PE/VC firms, management consultancies, and Fortune 500 corporations. (Source Vendor Web site)

 

Special Note: Because of licensing restrictions:

Access to Capital IQ is restricted to current faculty, staff, and students of UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Users MUST use their @kenan-flagler.unc.edu email address when requesting an account.

CB Insights is a database that provides information and independent analysis of private companies in a wide range of industries. The information is collected from a wide range of print and electronic sources and is supplemented by interviews and independent analysis. There is a special focus on the financing, and mergers and acquisitions of these companies through private investors and venture capital and private equity firms. Students, faculty and staff can now register for an account and access CB Insights

Special Note: Students, faculty and staff must register and set up an account using a valid UNC Chapel Hill email address to access CB Insights.

Special Note: Each user is limited to 4,000 lines of downloading per year.

Federal, State and some International Tax information The Federal service includes the Standrd Federal Tax Reporter; the Federal Estate/Gift Tax Reporter; the Federal Excise Tax Reporter; the current Internal Revenue Code; cases and rulings as well as IRS publications. The State file contains all State Tax Reporters as well as State Tax Laws. Other files cover International taxation. Federal Tax Day and State Tax Day are included in the News section.

SDC Platinum via Refinitiv Workspace

SDC Platinum is a collection of databases from Refinitiv including:

 

Global New Issues: information on new issues of stock by public companies as well as information on Initial Public Offerings by previously private companies. For U.S. and non U.S. companies.

 

Mergers & Acquisitions: Joint Ventures and Repurchases: information on U.S and Non U.S. deals.

 

Municipal Bonds: information on bonds issued by states, cities, towns, and other subnational issuers both in the United States and internationally.

 

Corporate Governance: information on Poison Pills and Shareholder Activism U.S. companies may have faced.

 

Private Equity: venture capital and private equity funding information at the firm, fund and portfolio company level. Including exits, fundraising and investments.

 

Corporate Restructuring: Full details on U.S bankruptcies from 1988 to the present and limited information on Bankruptcies from 1980 to 1990. Also information on Exchange offers for U.S. companies. This data is currently being converted to the new platform. The vendor expects it to be available in Fall 2023.

Zephyr

Zephyr includes information on mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, private equity, and venture capital deals and rumors. Zephyr has global coverage: European deals from as early as 1997, North American deals from 2000, and Other global areas deals form 2003 are included. Zephyr also strives to be comprehensive in that no minimum deal value is applied. As of July 2021 there was information for more than 2.2 million deals, rumors, and or transactions.

Users can search by hundreds of different deal elements including deal type, geography, industry, company financials and multiples.

Users can display data using any of 12 currencies.

Zephyr contains graphing capabilities and integrated analysis software that allows users to compare companies against each other and produce tables and graphs to illustrate results. The tables and charts can be downloaded into various word processing and spreadsheet formats.

The first time you log in you will be asked to select the country where you are located select United States and the U.S. state where you are located Select North Carolina. You will then be able to search the database.
